Apple + How To + Recommended When I went to upgrade my suped-up iMac the other night, I made a very unpleasant discovery. I have multiple 1TB SSD drives in my old iMac, three in fact, two of which are combined together in a RAID set and act as one single drive. This gives me the benefit of a roomy 2TB boot drive that performs at about twice the speed of a single SSD. It makes my old iMac perform even better than most newer models. Apple built a clean-it-up tool into macOS Sierra and High Sierra, but it isn’t obvious where to find it. Here’s what to do go to About this Mac, click the Storage tab, then click Manage next to your start up disk. From there you can see how much space different types of content take up, and you can delete files and apps from here, too. If you purchase your apps from the Mac App Store, deleteting them from here clears out their support files, too.

Force eject CD/DVD

When you upgrade, you install the new OS on top of the old OS, which can create problems. When I clean install, I erase the hard drive and install nothing but the new OS.
